Columbus Ohio: The latest efforts to bring recreational marijuana to the Buckeye State failed by just 13,062 signatures. Ohio legalized medical marijuana in 2016.

Ohio: Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Petition Fails Signature Requirements

The measure required a total of 133,000 signatures; however, some of the signatures were invalidated by the state and were deemed insignificant to meet the threshold by the Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose.

The petition to legalize recreational marijuana in Ohio now has until January 14th to collect the required number of signatures.

  • Enact a state law to legalize the cultivation, manufacturing, sales, and possession of recreational marijuana for adults 21 years and older.

  • Allow adults over the age of 21 to purchase and own 2.5 ounces of marijuana.

  • Allow adults to grow up to 6 plants per person and 12 plants per household.

  • Adults could possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and up to 15 grams of marijuana concentrates.

All is not lost for those seeking to bring recreational cannabis to Ohio. The state legislature can still pass the law without it going to the voters if they have the will.
